My dwarf runner beans makes no beans! The flowers drop off! Why?! Google told me that runner beans require insects to pollinate flowers. And not many bumblebees visit the fifth floor. So I took a small brush and tried to pollinate them myself. But when I looked into the open flowers, of which there are a lot, there were no flower thingies there! ( Read more... )

Grr! My big, hugely flowering begonia has powdery mildew. Since the whole plant is covered with flowers, I noticed it just a moment ago, though I remove old flowers every other day or so. At least there were no dying leaves yet... I took away all mildewy and broken leaves and sprayed the whole plant with pinesoap and water, I hope it recovers ( Read more... )

I bought this Begonia elatior in April, thinking that it would last for a couple of weeks, but it has been flowering for two months already and there's no sign of stopping. I feed it a little (very little) every now and then and try to remember to water it once in a couple of days. I have no idea how it can keep flowering so well.

Sow about 20 chili seeds in the tiniest pots you can find. Throw away the pots that haven't sprouted in a month or so. Forget the seedlings into the tiny pots on your window sill. Provide water and fertilizer when you remember, but let the seedlings wilt often. Throw away all chilies that drop their leaves ( Read more... )
